Karen Elaine Johnson
1949—2025

Karen Elaine Johnson, 76, of Dunlow, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 17, 2025, in her home surrounded by the people she loved.

Born July 24, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Betty Walker and Frank Shadd.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Johnson, three siblings and one nephew.

Survivors include Karen’s daughters Sandra (Daniel) Sartin and Elaine (Joe) Spaulding, both of Dunlow, and Elizabeth Maynard of Crum; sons Jeffery (Tunya) Johnson of Van Lear, Kentucky, Chris (Sabrina) Johnson of Dunlow and Kevin Johnson of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; and son-in-law Michael Maynard of Dunlow. She is also survived by her six precious grandkids, Kayla (Taylor) Grant, Jordan (Torie) Johnson, Jonathon (Sophie) Johnson, Lexy (Mason) Mann, Hannah (Nick) Mays, Christopher (Holly) Johnson, Morgan Maynard, Kendra Maynard, Keira Maynard and Carly Johnson; and six “tiny things” — her great-grandkids, Whitleigh Joelle, Macie Jo, Kingsley Madison, Lanie Ann, Ellie Mae and Keegan Tate. She also leaves behind three dear friends, Jewell Spaulding, Maggie Marcum and Michelle Kelly and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2025, at her home church, Turkey Creek United Baptist in Wilsondale, with Emanuel Ferguson officiating and Brett Shadd reading the obituary. Burial followed at the Johnson Family Cemetery on Drag Creek Road, Tolsia Highway. Pallbearers: Jordan Johnson, Jonathon Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Taylor Grant, Mason Mann, Dalton Davis, Luke Williamson and Brett Shadd.
