WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Justin Kirk, who was one of three new school board members elected in May, has resigned from the Mingo County Board of Education citing personal reasons.
The BOE formally accepted his resignation during a special session Aug. 25.
Superintendent of Schools Joetta Basile said the district will publish notice of the vacancy in local newspapers during the weeks of Aug. 31 and Sept. 7.
A special meeting will follow on Sept. 22 for the board to interview applicants interested in the position.
Basile said another special meeting will be conducted Oct. 6, at which time the board will present its recommendation for filling the vacancy,
Because no more than two board members from the same district can serve on the board at the same time, Basile said individuals living in the Williamson District cannot be considered for the position. Two current board members live in and already represent the Williamson District.
