WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Police arrested a Delbarton man on two counts of malicious assault, two counts of kidnapping and one count of strangulation involving two women.
Robert Wade Canada, 40, allegedly locked the two women in his home and assaulted them with a lawn mower blade.
Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) deputies responded after the two women escaped and made the emergency call to 911.
The incident allegedly took place at Canada’s residence on Rockhouse Fork after he met the two women while “walking on the backroad in Delbarton.” He allegedly began walking with them before inviting them back to his residence. The two women had been to a local convenience store before meeting Canada.
Once inside the residence, the police report states that Canada “became agitated, accusing (the two women) of stealing his medication.”
The arrest record stated that Canada then locked the women inside the residence and refused to allow them to leave.
One of the women managed to escape through a bedroom window, the police report said.
Police said fter Canada dragged the other woman out onto the porch, she finally escaped and called Mingo County 911 for help.
Canada was lodged at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash bond Aug. 22.
In other arrests, George Harmon Runyon, 58, of Delbarton, was charged with malicious wounding and being a prohibited person (felon) with a firearm. West Virginia State Police Trooper D.S. Evans arrested him Aug. 21. Troopers J. Kitts and J. Marcum assisted in the investigation.
Derek Lee Blevins, 32, of Lenore, was charged Aug. 23 with fleeing, driving with no registration, no insurance, driving with a revoked license (DUI), no seatbelt and being a prohibited person with a firearm.
Anthony H. Charles, 54, of Pikeville, Kentucky, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) after a traffic stop for not wearing a seatbelt. During the stop, officers detected a smell of pot coming from the car. Trooper Evans made the arrest.
Eddie Ray Smith, 36, of Gilbert, was charged with DUI after a motor vehicle accident on US 52 in Justice. He was arrested by the WSVP.
Fed Blevins, 45, of Williamson, was charged with destruction of property and parole violations. The Williamson Police Department arrested him.
Peyton W. Evans, 36, of Matewan, was charged with destruction of property. The Williamson Police Department arrested him.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
