INEZ — An Inez man was arrested Aug. 14 after police allege he drove off Old Route 3, struck a utility pole and overturned a vehicle with his wife inside, then became aggressive and threatening at the hospital.

Greg Daniel Fletcher, 42, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, failure to produce an insurance card and failure to produce a registration receipt.

According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police troopers were dispatched around 10:28 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash near Rockcastle Road.

Fletcher had allegedly been driving when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned onto its top. His wife, who was a passenger, was injured and transported to Highlands Hospital for treatment.

Troopers reported that Fletcher appeared extremely drowsy and had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. The citation states that he swayed while standing and had difficulty maintaining his balance.

Troopers transported Fletcher to a hospital for medical evaluation. While there, according to the citation, he became increasingly loud, disorderly, aggressive and threatening, repeatedly yelling obscenities in the emergency department despite instructions to stop.

The citation alleges Fletcher repeatedly told officers he wanted them to shoot him and demanded that they remove his handcuffs. He allegedly threatened to harm himself and others, including law enforcement officers and medical personnel, if the restraints were removed.

Fletcher then allegedly became physically aggressive, pulling away from officers, jerking his arms, attempting to stand and threatening to kick them.

Troopers ultimately physically restrained Fletcher.
