Hello, Martin County Cardinals. The school year is already bringing plenty of excitement to Martin County High School.

From the soccer and football fields to the theater stage and club day, there are so many opportunities for students to get involved, meet new people and show their Cardinal pride. With a new school year come new activities, new faces and plenty of memories waiting to be made.

One of the biggest new additions to MCHS this year is the new theater class. Students involved in the class have a lot to look forward to, with several exciting plays and musicals planned throughout the school year, including “Anne Jr.” and “Seussical.” For students who have always wanted to try acting, singing or performing on stage, this class gives them the chance to step outside their comfort zones and discover something new.

Students are already excited about what the theater program will bring to MCHS this year. Via Parfit, one of the students involved in theater, shared her excitement about the new opportunities.

“This will bring students many acting opportunities and expand their horizons on learning about the history of theater,” Parfit said.

With new productions and plenty of opportunities to get involved, the theater class is sure to bring a new kind of energy to the school. Whether you are interested in performing or just want to support your classmates from the audience, it should be an exciting year for the MCHS theater program.

Of course, theater is not the only thing getting Cardinals excited this year. Fall sports are also officially underway, and the Cardinal Football team is ready to take on the Lawrence County Bulldogs for its season opener. After months of preparation, hard work, and offseason workouts, the Cards are ready to finally hit the field and put everything they have worked for to the test.

The beginning of a new football season is always an exciting time at MCHS. Students, teachers, families and fans are ready to fill the stands, support the team, and show what it means to be a Cardinal. Hopefully, this season will bring plenty of exciting games and memories for both the players and fans.

The Lady Cardinal soccer team also had an exciting start to its season. On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Lady Cards took the field against longtime rival Johnson Central. Martin County could not have been happier with the team’s performance, as the Lady Cards ended the game early with a 9-1 mercy-rule victory.

The Lady Cards will return to The Rock on Saturday, Aug. 22, to face East Carter. After such a strong performance against Johnson Central, fans are looking forward to seeing what the team can accomplish next.

With new classes, new activities and another exciting sports season underway, there is already a lot happening around Martin County High School. It may only be the beginning of the school year, but it is clear that the 2026-27 school year is going to be one to remember.
