Eastern Kentucky homeowners may qualify for help repairing or replacing a failing septic system or connecting their residence to a public sewer system. Eastern Kentucky PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment) announced Monday that it is now accepting applications for its septic assistance program.
The program also assists qualifying homeowners whose properties do not have septic systems.
PRIDE officials said the program helps prevent untreated wastewater from entering streams and groundwater, improving public health and environmental safety throughout the region.
Applicants must own the home where the work will be performed, have electrical service in their name and meet the program’s income guidelines. Rental properties, leased properties and properties being purchased through land contracts are not eligible.
Applicants must provide the following documents:
- A copy of the recorded deed showing ownership of the property.
- An electric bill dated within 90 days of the application. The bill must show the residence’s physical address rather than a post office box.
- Proof of income for everyone living in the household, including minors. Accepted income documentation includes recent check stubs, the previous year’s federal income tax return and current-year Social Security benefits statements.
PRIDE will not process applications submitted without the required supporting documents.
Homeowners should submit only one application per household. Applicants may complete the electronic form on PRIDE’s website, kypride.org, or submit a paper application, but they should not apply both ways.

Applicants who cannot upload their supporting documents may mail or fax them separately. Documents should include the name listed on the application.
Supporting documents may be mailed to Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, 2292 S. Highway 27, Somerset, KY 42501, or faxed to 606-677-6055.
PRIDE will select the licensed septic installer who performs any septic system installation. A licensed master plumber must connect the system to the home. The septic installer will be responsible for applicable health department permit fees, and the local health department must inspect each system.
A licensed master plumber must also perform all connections to public sewer systems.
