CITIZEN STAFF REPORT

SITKA — Race week has officially arrived at 201 Speedway and organizers say anticipation is “reaching a fever pitch” for what they call one of the biggest events of the 2026 season: the Jamie Slone Memorial.

Set for Aug. 1, the marquee event promises an evening of “high-octane dirt-track action” on the newly resurfaced 3/8-mile clay oval.

The memorial event honors the legacy of Jamie Slone, a revered driver who helped shape regional motorsports.

With the return of the Kentucky Dirt Racing Association (KDRA) Super Stocks, organizers say that deep sense of track history, passion and community will be on display as fans and drivers unite to celebrate Slone’s enduring impact.

Six divisions, including three touring series, will compete.

“Whether you are a longtime member of the ‘201 Nation’ or a first-time visitor experiencing the track’s renowned atmosphere, this is a must-attend event of the season,” organizer James Trimble said.

“Fans will witness an incredible lineup featuring three major touring series sharing the spotlight for one unforgettable night,” Trimble said.

Ohio Valley Sprint Car Series and East Kentucky Sprint Car Championship will compete for a $2,519 top prize.

Slingin’ Dirt Late Model Series alongside Crate Late Models race for $5,019.

Kentucky Dirt Racing Association Super Stock Series battle for $1,519 to win.

In addition to the premier touring series, 201 Speedway is packing the card with three local support classes, bringing the total to six divisions:

Sport Modifieds: One of the track’s largest and most competitive classes.

Crown Vics: A fast-growing division known for fierce side-by-side competition.

4-Cylinders: Affordable, beginner-friendly and always entertaining.

Grandstand and pit gates open at 2 p.m.

Drivers meet at 6:30 p.m.

Hot laps and qualifying start at 7 p.m.

Trimble encourages spectators to arrive early to secure prime seating on the hillside and grandstands “to witness a packed night of racing history.”

The event is packing an impressive list of sponsors: The Isles Nutrition, Frito Rocks, Southern Steel & Recycling, Preston Monument and Memorial, Raceport Trailers, Pharmacist Jesse Rudd, YPK Motorsports, Taylor Metal and Sons Roofing, SunnyDaze Car Wash, Foothills Communication, and Ultimate Air.
