Harold Randall Marcum
1957—2026

Harold Randall Marcum, 69, of Kermit, West Virginia, died July 23, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones in Pikeville Medical Center.

Born April 4, 1957, he was the son of the late Herbert Marcum and Edith Doss Marcum.

Harold worked as a truck driver. He was an EMT and served as captain with the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department, Unit 815, for 54 years.

Harold was a member of Golden Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Stonecoal.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Dwayne Marcum.

Survivors include Harold’s loving wife of 42 years, Sherry Marcum; his furbaby, Lady Marcum; his brother, Mike (Sharon) Marcum of Jennies Creek; his sister-in-law, Elaine Marcum of Wilsondale; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at noon July 25, 2026, with Billy Messer, Bobby Alley and Ken Allen officiating.

Accompanied by fire departments from Kermit, Allen, Fort Gay, Lenore, Inez, Warfield and Williamson, Capt. Harold Randall Marcum took his final ride through Kermit to his resting place at Harold Marcum Cemetery on the Left Fork of Marrowbone.

Along the route, the procession passed beneath an American flag suspended between the raised aerial ladders of two fire trucks.

Mingo County Dispatch then broadcast the final tone-out, calling Capt. Harold Marcum, Unit 815, three times. After receiving no response, dispatch announced that Capt. Marcum had completed his final call.

The American flag was folded and presented to his wife.
