INEZ — Kentucky households struggling with summer electric bills may apply for assistance beginning Aug. 3 through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

The summer subsidy is available statewide to households with income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Assistance is paid directly to the household’s energy provider.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 11 on a first-come, first-served basis, or until available funding is exhausted. Residents must apply through their local Community Action Agency.

Applicants must provide proof of a Social Security number or permanent residency for every household member, proof of income for all household members for the previous month and a current electric bill. Those whose electricity is included in rent or purchased through a prepaid program may instead submit documentation from a landlord or utility provider.

Households that received assistance through an earlier LIHEAP component may still qualify for the summer subsidy.
