606 Firecrackers battle through Heat in the Hills

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The 606 Firecrackers endured high temperatures through three games July 26 in the Heat in the Hills tournament in Williamson.

The squad came up short against Appalachian Heat-Luster, the Lady Rebels and Appalachian Heat-Bentley. But continued to compete throughout a long day of softball.

Arielle Jude and Sarah McCoy provided two of the tournament’s defensive highlights with outstanding catches in the outfield.

AH-L 7, Firecrackers 0

Appalachian Heat-Luster held the Firecrackers off the scoreboard in the tournament opener.

Emily Mooney recorded three strikeouts in the circle for the Firecrackers.

LR 12, Firecrackers 4

The Firecrackers found more offense in their second contest but fell to the Lady Rebels 12-4.

Emily Mooney, Sarah McCoy, Paisley Mooney and Brylee Davidson each crossed the plate once for the Firecrackers.

McCoy recorded one strikeout in the circle. Jaycee Hagans fanned three batters.

AH-B 13, Firecrackers 5

The Firecrackers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in bracket play before Appalachian Heat-Bentley rallied for a 13-5 victory.

The red and baby blue team carried the five-run advantage into the third inning. But a few defensive mistakes and the fatigue of a long tournament day allowed the Heat to swing the momentum.

Layla Cline scored twice for the Firecrackers. Davidson also crossed the plate two times. Kenleigh Estep added one run.

Hagans struck out four batters in the circle.
