LEXINGTON — Eight Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post 9 troopers and detectives were among 84 honored July 23 during the KSP annual Sworn Awards Ceremony in Lexington. The officers were recognized for going above and beyond the call of service in 2025.
During 2025, KSP responded to 532,600 calls for assistance, conducted thousands of wellness checks during dangerous weather conditions, protected children from online predators, secured justice for victims and assisted local law enforcement agencies as needed to promote safety throughout the state.
Among the eight Post 9 honorees, five troopers were recognized for bravery, an honor bestowed on officers who perform acts of bravery without regard for personal risk despite obvious peril beyond the call of ordinary duty.
“It is an honor not only to serve as the commander of Post 9, but to serve alongside these outstanding troopers and detectives,” Post 9 Commander Capt. Brad Riley said. “The awards presented today are just a small example of how our troopers go above and beyond each day to serve and protect their communities. I have had the privilege of watching their dedication and professionalism firsthand, and I am proud of each and every one of them.”
Detective Dylan Mullins was named the 2025 Post 9 Detective of the Year. He is a seven-year veteran of the KSP.
Trooper Izaeyah Dotson, who has served with the agency for three years, was named the 2025 Post 9 Trooper of the Year.
Trooper Mitchell Culbertson received a Lifesaving Award. He is a three-year KSP veteran.
Trooper Jonathan Rouse received a Citation for Bravery. He is an 11-year veteran of the agency.
Trooper Ryan Hale, who has served for 10 years, received a Citation for Bravery.
Trooper Braxton Whitmore received a Citation for Bravery. He is a five-year KSP veteran.
Trooper Nicholas Taylor, who has served for four years, received a Citation for Bravery.
Trooper Ricky Newsom, an 11-year KSP veteran, received a Citation for Bravery.
