Back-to-School Bash brings free supplies, pool party, throwback fun July 30

INEZ — Break out the neon, bell-bottoms and big hair. Martin County is turning back the clock for a high-energy Back-to-School Bash packed with free school supplies, treats, colorful decorations and a pool party.

The annual celebration will take place Thursday, July 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Inez Freewill Baptist Church gym beside the Martin County Swimming Pool.

The Martin County Ministerial Association and Martin County Family Resource and Youth Service Centers are teaming up to give local students a fun sendoff into the new school year.

This year’s theme is “Decades,” inviting participating organizations to bring the spirit of their favorite era to life. Tables may feature anything from 1950s sock-hop style and 1970s flower power to 1980s neon and 1990s pop culture. Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated table.

Students can collect school supplies and treats before cooling off at the pool party. An adult must accompany any student who plans to swim.

Organizers expect approximately 500 students and are calling on businesses, churches, volunteers and community organizations to help make the night a success by distributing school supplies, candy, treats and other items.

“Your commitment to providing necessary supplies to assist students in obtaining an education is a vital asset, and we are grateful for your support,” FRYSC coordinators wrote in a statement. “Any school supplies you can provide will be a great help.”

Vendors and community partners should bring their own tables and chairs and may bring a canopy. Setup begins at 4:30 p.m., and all booths must be ready by 5:30 p.m.
