Marcum gains recognition among state’s top players

INEZ — Martin County’s Makenna Marcum is already gaining attention as one of Kentucky’s top girls basketball players.

She joins a talented group of rising stars in the Class of 2030.

The Martin County guard made an immediate impact while playing up at the varsity level as an eighth grader last season.

Marcum averaged 12.7 points per game and knocked down 29 3-pointers for the Lady Cardinals. She also led the team at the free-throw line, shooting 72.7%, while adding 2.8 rebounds per contest.

Marcum shot 35.4% from the field while competing against high school varsity players throughout the season.

Her name is now being mentioned alongside Kollyn Groves of Boyd County, Avery Miller of Ashland, George Rogers Clark standouts Eliyah Strode and Kyah Curtsinger and other highly regarded players in Kentucky’s 2030 class.

With a full varsity season already under her belt before officially entering high school, Marcum will be a player to watch as she continues her career at Martin County.
