INEZ — The Martin County Senior Citizens Center will purchase a new dishwasher with a $3,899 grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

The center provides congregate and home-delivered meals to Martin County residents aged 60 and older. It also offers nutrition education, information and assistance, health promotion programs, recreational activities and exercise classes.

“Our staff strive to provide our seniors a safe place to come enjoy a meal and meet new friends or just socialize with old friends,” center director Jennifer Crum said.

The center serves lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.

Seniors may participate in bingo at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, while a Bible study group meets at noon Fridays.

“Anyone is welcome to join us at the center,” Crum said.

Exercise programs offered at the center include Bingocize, Drums Alive, Walk With Ease and arthritis exercise classes.

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels awarded $2.6 million in grants to 318 nonprofit organizations through its 2026 Good Works Program. The organization said the grants will affect more than 4 million Kentuckians.

The grant program is funded by donations from Kentucky Colonels across the commonwealth and around the world.

“It is the Honorable Order’s purpose to strengthen the lives of Kentuckians, and we do that through this grant program, called the Good Works Program,” Executive Director Sherry Crose said. “We are grateful for the contributions from Kentucky Colonels to this program, and together we can help Kentucky nonprofits with their mission to enrich and reinforce the lives of Kentucky residents.”

Crum said the organization has supported the Martin County Senior Citizens Center for a decade.

“Center staff, seniors and board members thank Kentucky Colonels for the help they have provided the center,” Crum said. “We appreciate their organization.”

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels is a nonprofit organization that supports charitable activities throughout Kentucky. Since 1951, the organization has awarded approximately $75 million in grants to more than 1,700 nonprofit organizations.
