Four Tug Valley baseball players receive All-State honors

Four Tug Valley High School baseball players have been named to the Class A All-State Baseball team.

The Panthers’ Gavin Fitzpatrick, Chandler Copley, Darian Vance and Dawson Richardson were all named Honorable Mention All-State.

Fitzpatrick, a senior, led the Panthers with a .444 batting average. He also had 40 base hits, 22 RBIs, five doubles, two triples and 25 stolen bases.

Copley, a senior pitcher/infielder, batted .397 this season with 36 RBIs, nine doubles and one triple. He had 46 total base hits. As a pitcher, Copley had a 63-inning worksheet and a 3.67 ERA with 87 strikeouts.

Richardson also had a big year as he batted .307 with one home run, 19 RBIs, six doubles, a triple and 35 total base hits. As a pitcher, he hurled 62-2/3 innings and had a 3.02 ERA with 80 total strikeouts.

Vance, a freshman, had a solid season for the Panthers, playing outfield and infield and seeing time at catcher. Vance hit .333 this spring with 22 RBIs and three doubles. Being fleet of foot, he led the team with 27 stolen bases.

The West Virginia Sports Writers Association conducted the voting.
