NAUGTUCK, W.Va. — The Tug Valley basketball program has picked up another transfer.

Mattox Sartin, who played at Mingo Central the last couple of years, will play for the Panthers and Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson this year.

Sartin, a 5-foot-9 junior point guard, started for Coach Rob Browning and the Miners last season.

The Sartin family is from the Kermit area, so it is like he is coming home to play at Naugatuck this season.

Tug Valley All-State point guard Braydun Ferris graduated this year, so Sartin could see considerable playing time for the Panthers.

The Sartin family has deep family roots in the Kermit area within the Tug Valley School district.

Tug Valley had another big transfer last week when 6-foot-5 Tyler Weddington announced he would be transferring to the Mingo County school from Phelps, Kentucky.

Sartin averaged 12 points and eight assists per game last season for Mingo Central.

The Panthers, 21-5 last season, won their third straight Class A state championship. They will likely be the favorites to win it all again this season in West Virginia.

Sartin also plays football and was a wide receiver for Coach David Jones and the Miners. He is also expected to lace up the cleats for the Tug Valley football team this fall.
