Conservation district encourages farmers to seek state cost share funding

INEZ — Local farmers have until Oct. 31 to apply for a state cost share program that helps pay for conservation projects designed to improve water quality and reduce soil erosion.

The Martin County Conservation District announced this week that it is accepting requests for funding through the Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share Program, a statewide initiative that provides financial assistance for approved agricultural conservation practices.

Created in 1994, the program prioritizes projects addressing animal waste management and other agricultural pollution concerns, local officials said. Kentucky Soil and Water Conservation Commission approve applications as funds become available.

For information about applying, contact the Martin County Conservation District at 606-298-3595 or visit the office at 387 East Main Street in Inez, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
