Tug Valley has become a perennial power in Class A basketball in West Virginia over the last few years. They have won three straight state championships. Their chances for winning another title increased recently with the transfer of Phelps High School standout Tyler Weddington.

The muscular, 6-foot-5 low post threat has been a double-double machine during his career at Phelps.

Weddington is already working out for the Panthers in the summer flex days and team camp scrimmages.

He averaged close to 30 points per game and 16.4 rebounds per game last season for the Hornets. The big man made 58% of his shots from the floor and 42% from 3-point territory. He also averaged six assists and two blocks per contest.

Weddington has been one of the top players in Kentucky’s 15th Region over the last few seasons. He has already surpassed 2,000 points and 1,400 rebounds in his high school career.

Weddington’s transfer to Tug Valley also reunites him with his former Phelps teammate Zade Rash.

Rash transferred to Tug Valley last season and was a member of the Panthers’ state championship squad a year ago.

Both players will be seniors this coming season.

There is no doubt that Weddington will be a big asset for Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s and his staff.
