
Jay Douglas Hinkle
1968—2026
Jay Douglas Hinkle, of Warfield, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Born Jan. 13, 1968, he was a lifelong resident of Martin County and was known for his dedication to serving others.
Doug worked as a paramedic for NetCare and faithfully served his community as a former Fire Chief of the Warfield Fire Department. He also worked for more than 20 years at Edgewood Dempsey Housing, where he touched the lives of countless residents and co-workers.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Jay Hinkle.
He is survived by his mother, Valerie Fields Hinkle of Warfield; his children, Jason (Carol) Hinkle of Beauty and Ashley (Cory) Blair of Debord; and his grandchildren, Bryson, Karson, Heavenly and Kasyn Blair. He is also survived by three siblings, Tammy (Daniel) McCoy and Mark (Angel) Hinkle, both of Beauty, and Jamalyn (Almond) McCoy of Inez; and several nieces and nephews.
Doug will be remembered for his compassionate heart, his commitment to public service, and the lasting impact he made on his community through his work in emergency services and healthcare.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Callaham Funeral Home in Inez with Terry Harmon officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
