West Virginia Hot Dog Festival returns to Huntington June 6

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The 22nd Annual West Virginia Hot Dog Festival will return to downtown Huntington on June 6, bringing together some of the region’s best-known hot dog vendors for a daylong celebration benefiting Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pullman Square and along several blocks of Third Avenue. Organizers say more than a dozen hot dog businesses from Huntington, the Tri-State and across West Virginia are expected to participate.

Among the featured vendors are Stewart’s Original Hot Dogs, Jim’s Steak & Spaghetti House, Triple H Drive-In, The Shakery Drive-In, Sam’s Hot Dogs and T & L Hot Dogs. New this year is Walker’s Market of Barboursville, which plans to serve its signature “Pizza dogs.”

Festival-goers also will find sweets and refreshments from vendors including Rick’s Lemonade, Kona Ice, Scraggle Pop kettle corn and The Cookie Jar.

The event will feature a full slate of contests and attractions, including the annual Wiener Dog Races at high noon, all-breed dog races divided into three weight classes and a pooch parade and dog costume contest beginning at 10:20 a.m. Organizers also plan a $100 Dachshund Dash, a hot-dog-eating contest, a root-beer-chugging contest and a new children’s wiener-flip contest.

A car, truck and motorcycle show sponsored by Moses Auto Group will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Third Avenue. Registration opens at 8 a.m.

Live entertainment throughout the day will include performances by Souls of the Wounded, BBC and Shotglass, with Scott Hesson serving as emcee.

Organizers also plan a free KidZone with inflatables, a PetZone featuring adoptable rescue dogs and an ASAP adopt-a-thon.

The event is organized as a fundraiser for children in treatment through Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.
