INEZ — There are moments when an ordinary phone call becomes something unforgettable. For Tracie Maynard of Inez, this year’s Mother’s Day Giveaway from the Mountain Citizen delivered that kind of surprise.
When Maynard learned she had won the overflowing basket of gifts, excitement quickly turned to emotion.
“I’ve never won anything before in my life,” she said through disbelief and laughter. “Are you sure you have the right person?”
Then came the words that captured the moment best.
“This has made my day. I could cry. I am so happy. It’s the best Mother’s Day!”
The mother of two daughters, Tasha and Summer, and grandmother to 18-month-old Haisley was selected in a drawing as the winner of the community giveaway celebrating local mothers.
The basket, packed to the brim with gifts, treats and pampering surprises, was made possible through the generosity of local businesses across Martin County.
Blue Light Bargains donated a stylish “Mama” Bogg Bag, while Blooms on Main created a bouquet fit for a queen. Dairy Drive-In added a $25 gift certificate for a favorite local meal and Spirit Shop contributed a mug set and car coasters perfect for daily coffee runs.
Sun Sisters Tanning and Tiki Bar helped bring a little summer glow with free tanning sessions, while Movies on Main added two tickets for a night out.
Sugar Momma’s Sweet Shop sweetened the basket with a certificate for a free dozen donuts.
Paula’s Hair Images, also known as Paula’s Pretties, filled a gift bag with special touches. At the same time, Desk to Dress and Steph’s Stuff added a spa-themed gift set designed to help Mom relax and unwind.
The Mountain Citizen completed the giveaway with $100 cash.
