INEZ — Martin County Middle School softball offense erupted in the second inning en route to a 17-2 win over the Fort Gay Vikings, April 21 in Inez.
The Lady Cardinals set the tone early. They took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Zoe Sammons, Harper Runyon and Kenadi Fannin each crossed the plate.
In the circle, Runyon was equally sharp. She struck out three batters in a perfect top of the first.

The Vikings pushed across a run in the second inning, but Martin County quickly answered with its explosive frame. The Lady Cardinals sent a parade of runners home, plating 15 runs to break the game wide open.
Runyon continued to control the lineup before Hope Dials took over in the third inning. Dials allowed just one run while striking out three to secure the mercy-rule victory.

Harleigh Maynard, Emily Mooney, Molly Hinkle, Sammons, Runyon, Dials and Fannin led the scoring attack with two runs apiece. Macie Callaham, Kinslee Callaham and Alice Mae Gilkey also added runs in the win.
