CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) and the Eastern Kentucky Talent Network will host a regional hiring event April 28 connecting Eastern Kentucky workers with skilled trades, manufacturing and energy-sector opportunities, including positions with WECTEC Staffing Services, a Westinghouse affiliate.
The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Ashland Community and Technical College’s Technology Drive Campus, 902 Technology Drive, Grayson.
Virtual interview options will also be available for qualified participants across Eastern Kentucky.
According to Joshua Ball, SOAR chief operating officer, the hiring event will focus heavily on nuclear outage work, a specialized field supporting maintenance and operations at power plants across the country. He said the project-based jobs allow workers to travel for temporary assignments, complete technical work and return home between projects.
The event will also include opportunities in renewable energy, energy infrastructure, manufacturing, extraction industries and other skilled trades and technical roles.
More than 40 Eastern Kentuckians are already working in nuclear outage roles through the program, traveling for assignments while continuing to live in the region.
Job seekers can register in advance through the Eastern Kentucky Talent Network by completing an online form, uploading a resume and participating in a one-on-one assessment. Qualified applicants may be scheduled for interviews before the event.
Walk-ins will be accepted but interviews are not guaranteed.
More information and registration are available through SOAR’s website.
