INEZ — Martin County High School senior Alyssa Mullins is taking the next step in both her academic and athletic career.
Mullins signed with the University of Pikeville on April 10 to continue her softball career while pursuing a degree in nursing.
“It means a lot to me,” Mullins said. “The Martin County program helped me learn how to step up and be a leader when needed, how to be a better teammate, classmate and friend, and what it’s like to be a family on a team truly.”
A standout in the classroom as well as on the field, Mullins carries a 4.323 GPA and has been active in HOSA along with community service work through Judi’s Place for Kids.

In the circle, Mullins has been a steady presence for the Lady Cardinals throughout her career. She has pitched six games so far this season, totaling 38 innings with 32 strikeouts and a 6.45 ERA. She has also recorded two wins this year.
As a junior, Mullins appeared in 18 games, logging 72.2 innings with 59 strikeouts. She also contributed at the plate, batting .275 with 14 hits, including a double, while scoring six runs and driving in two. She hit the 100 strikeout career milestone last season.
Mullins has been part of the high school program for six years and played a role in one of the program’s most notable moments. He helped secure a win over Paintsville for the first time in the Martin County High School era.
Mullins expressed appreciation for the support of her family, Pamela and Clinton Mullins.
