LIHEAP Spring Subsidy enrollment starts April 20

Residents can apply April 20 for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Spring Subsidy, which helps eligible households offset cooling costs.

Enrollment runs through May 22, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis or until available funds are exhausted.

Spring Subsidy provides a one-time electric benefit paid directly to the household’s energy vendor. The program is available in all Kentucky counties for households with income at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Officials said applicants do not need a disconnect notice, a past-due bill or an eviction notice to qualify. The subsidy can be applied as a credit to the household’s electric account.

Assistance received during previous LIHEAP components does not affect eligibility.

Applicants must provide proof of Social Security number or a permanent resident card for each household member, proof of income for all household members from the preceding month, and the most current electric bill.

Those whose electricity is included in rent must provide a statement from the landlord. Meanwhile, households in a pre-pay electric program must provide a statement from the utility company.

Applicants must also provide the account number and name for the household’s main fuel source and electric bill.

Residents interested in applying should contact their local Community Action Program office.

Community Action Kentucky administers LIHEAP in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which receives funding through a federal block grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
