PRESTONSBURG — Martin County Middle School could not muster enough offense and fell to Adams 10-1 on March 23.
Martin County managed four hits in the contest with Kooper Sturgill leading the way. Sturgill went 1-for-2, scored the team’s lone run and created pressure with three stolen bases.
Mayson Phillips also went 1-for-2 and drove in Martin County’s only run while swiping a base. Jonah Mills added a 1-for-2 effort with a stolen base, and Brock Fields contributed a double in a 1-for-2 performance. Blaine Williams added to the Cardinals’ aggressive baserunning with a steal.
On the mound, Sturgill started and allowed two hits and five runs, four of them earned.
Williams worked two innings in relief, giving up two earned runs on two hits while striking out three.
Fields also saw action, striking out one while allowing four hits and three earned runs.
