INEZ — Martin County Fiscal Court accepted Sheriff John Kirk’s 2025 excess fees settlement during a special meeting March 26. The annual report showed the sheriff’s office ended the year with $53.23 in excess fees, no unpaid obligations and no outstanding debts.
The settlement shows the office’s fee account received $424,913.82 and disbursed $424,860.59 during calendar year 2025.
The largest source of revenue was commission on taxes collected at $209,705.91. Other major receipts include $79,353.61 in circuit clerk-related revenue — $79,108.61 for security services and $245 in fines — along with $52,240.50 from the county clerk for delinquent taxes, $26,913.60 from serving papers, $22,740 in state grants and $19,750 in auto inspection fees.
Additional revenue includes $4,242.30 from Mountain Comp, $2,120 from CCDW fees, $1,950 from accident and police reports, $2,615.78 in other receipts, $1,686.20 from the Finance and Administration Cabinet, $1,500 from the City of Inez and $95.92 in interest. The settlement shows no revenue from the Fiscal Court in 2025.
The largest expenditures include $150,627.78 for deputies and court security officer salaries, $86,362.88 for other part-time salaries, $45,443.80 in capital outlay tied to vehicle purchases, $35,584.99 for the employer’s share of retirement, $22,744.82 for gasoline, $20,309.36 for postage, $18,230.79 for the employer’s share of Social Security and $17,067.78 for office materials and supplies.
Other expenses include $3,593.48 for uniforms, $1,889.39 for travel, $1,426.60 for mileage on personal vehicles, $562 for dues and $143.02 for advertising.
