Eastern Kentucky shines at Grammys: Childers wins first award as Stapleton claims 12th

LOS ANGELES — Eastern Kentucky represented at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Sunday. Lawrence County songwriter Tyler Childers claimed his first Grammy Award, while Johnson County native Chris Stapleton added a 12th Grammy to his career.

Childers led all Kentucky artists with four nominations. He won Best Country Song for “Bitin’ List,” earning his first Grammy as a songwriter after years of critical acclaim for his Appalachian-rooted work.

Childers also received nominations for Best Country Solo Performance for “Nose on the Grindstone,” Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Love Me Like You Used to Do” with Margo Price, and Best Contemporary Country Album for “Snipe Hunter.”

Stapleton, one of country music’s most decorated performers, won Best Country Solo Performance for “Bad As I Used to Be,” a song featured in “F1: The Movie.” The victory marked the 12th Grammy of his career and reinforced his standing among the elite.

Stapleton also earned nominations for Best Country Song as a co-writer and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

Kentucky’s Grammy presence extended beyond country music into other genres.

Louisville R&B artist Bryson Tiller earned two nominations for his work on “It Depends,” which received nods for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.

Kentucky’s musical roots also appeared in the bluegrass field. Veteran fiddlers Michael Cleveland and Jason Carter earned a nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for their collaborative project “Carter & Cleveland.”
