Cards win games in Florida

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Martin County High School boys basketball players are soaking up the rays and winning ballgames in the Sunshine State.

The team took down Lennard High School of Ruskin, Florida, by a score of 68-60 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Cardinals played Smith County out of Carthage, Tennessee, at the Wiregrass Sports Campus. Martin County convincingly won 70-49 to enter the championship game of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational on Monday. Details of the championship were not available at the press deadline.

MC vs Lennard – Parker Watts brought the heat to Florida on Friday. The senior scorched the nets after dropping 33 points and pulling down four boards for the Cards.

Peyton Davis knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 13 points and four rebounds.

Young gun Bryson Dials hit for 13 points and pulled four off the glass.

Brayden Estep has become the board-getter for the Cardinals. He pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds and hit a shot from behind the arc in the win.

Devan Maynard was just shy of a double-double. He shot 80% from the field, scoring eight points for the Cards and grabbing 12 rebounds.

MC vs Smith County – Ten Cardinals hit the scoring book in the 70-49 stomping of Smith County.

Parker Watts was 7-10 from the charity stripe and led Martin County with 23 points and six rebounds.

Senior guard Peyton Davis hit two from 3-point range en route to 14 points and three boards. He was 6-10 from the field.

Bryson Dials had seven points and three rebounds on the day.

Alan Moore came off the bench to shoot 3-3 from the field for six points. Aiden Copeland hit a shot from behind the arc and finished with five points.

Devan Maynard and Brayden Estep hit double digits in the rebound column with 10. They scored four and three points, respectively.

Aiden Armstrong and Brayden Marcum both hit a shot from deep for three points each. Marcum pulled two off the glass.

Jaxson Pack chipped in with a bucket and two rebounds.
