Teddy D. Paynter
1955—2024

Teddy D. Paynter, 68, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Born May 17, 1955, in Man, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Kelly and Betty (Kilgore) Paynter.

Teddy was in his 50th year of reporting sports and was working at Mountain Top Media at the time of his death. His career began in 1973 at the Logan Banner in Logan County, West Virginia. He was the first writer assigned to cover all sports at Man High School. He covered sporting events for junior and high schools, WVU, Marshall University, Virginia Tech, the University of Kentucky, and NASCAR.

Teddy was also active in educating the young new to sports.

He served as president of the Triadelphia Little League and coached t-ball, Little League and Midget League for the Man Dolphins.

Just this past September, he was proudly inducted into the Man High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Timmy, Tommy, Donald and Charles “Chuck” and a sister, Tammy.

Survivors are his wife Lisa (Osendott) Paynter; one son, Jamie (Bobbi Jean) Paynter of Bridgeport, West Virginia; one granddaughter, Madison (Jake) Frye of Davin West Virginia; two sisters, Donna Paynter and Debra (Turk) Bailey, both of Pineville, West Virginia; grandson, Lucas Creed Frye; and one granddaughter on the way, Lucy Jae Frye.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Callaham Funeral Home Chapel in Warfield, with Donald Lafferty officiating. Burial was at the Osendott Family Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
