Arcie Doris Martin Dolin
1929—2024

Arcie Doris Martin Dolin, 95, of Tomahawk, exchanged worlds in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024.

She was born Jan. 11, 1929, to the late John Kinder Martin and Effie May Barker Martin.

Doris was a 1947 graduate of Scott High School in Madison, West Virginia. She was a member of the Rockcastle Church of Christ. Formerly of Ravenswood, West Virginia, Doris retired from Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, West Virginia, where she worked as a unit secretary.

Doris sought out crochet and knitting charities and donated many homemade blankets and caps for the neo-natal units in various hospitals, painted memory boxes for mothers of stillborn babies, and made mats for the homeless out of Walmart bags.

After the death of her youngest son, Timothy, she “escaped” into the world of tole painting. A member of Tole Friends United, she turned plain objects into beautiful treasures and loved to exhibit at craft shows, including the Dogwood Festival in Huntington, West Virginia. Tuesday became a regular meeting day with her artist friends Elsie Jones and Carol Ann Compton.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Vernon “Pud” Dolin; her youngest son, Timothy Alan Dolin; her parents, John Kinder Martin and Effie May Barker Martin; three sisters, Verba Pearl Davis, Deloris Elberta Chambers and Readith Janet McNeeley; and three brothers, Leamon, Quinton and Sebert Edwin Martin.

Survivors include her son, Vernon Michael (Audrey Fields) Dolin of Bluefield, Virginia; one daughter, Melinda Sue (William Ray) Goble of Tomahawk; and five grandchildren, Brandon (Darlene) and Amy Leigh of Virginia, Amanda (Phillip) Horn of London, Andrew (Ashley Harmon) Goble of Louisa and Rebecca Goble of Lexington; nine great-grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, Hollie, Jacob, Cody, Allison, Noah, Zackary and Henry; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Carter, Cayson, Caydon, Audrey and Bascom.

Services were provided by Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Burial was at the Dolin Family Cemetery, Foster, West Virginia. handleyfh.com
