Russell Blackburn
1955—2024

Russell Blackburn, 68, of Debord, went to be with his savior April 17, 2024.

Born Nov. 27, 1955, in Debord, he was the son of the late Burgess and Josephine Blackburn.

In addition to his parents, Russell’s brothers, Earnest (Betty) Blackburn, Glen Blackburn, Earl “RB” Blackburn, Billy Joe Blackburn and Burgess Blackburn Jr., and sisters, Monetta Blackburn and Ida (Bossier) Goble preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mildred McCoy Blackburn; one daughter, Sabrina (Aaron) Thompson of Pikeville; one son, Brandon Blackburn of Debord; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Lucy Thompson. He also leaves behind two brothers, John Eddie (Doris) Blackburn and Donald (Greta) Blackburn; two sisters, Phyllis (Charles) Preece and Betty Blackburn Chapman; four sisters-in-law, Rose Mary Blackburn, Sharlene Blackburn, Rosa Faye Blackburn and Brenda Blackburn.

Russell worked in the coal industry for 20 years at Wolf Creek Collieries. He enjoyed the outdoors, which included running his rabbit dogs and traveling on his side-by-side.

Family served as pallbearers.

Funeral services took place April 20, 2024, in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home, Inez, with Tommy Reed and Mike Smith officiating. Burial was at Riverview Memorial Garden. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
