Cardinals fall to Belfry

INEZ — Martin County experienced the first loss of the season against the Belfry Pirates 3-1 at home April 1.

The game remained scoreless for three innings.

Martin County got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning after Hunter Moore’s groundout to first base scored a run.

Belfry seized the lead 3-1 in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits.

Chase Stacy took the loss for Martin County, giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking five.

Stacy pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out five and giving up five walks.

Jonah Adkins claimed the win for Belfry, giving up two hits and no runs over three innings while striking out two. Donte Davis started on the mound for the Pirates, pitching three innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out six and walking one.

Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate for Martin County and drove in a run. Aiden Horn, Ryan Stephens and Stacy each contributed a single.

The Cardinals moved to 6-1 on the season.
