FRANKFORT — Kentucky legislators sent a spending bill to Governor Andy Beshear on Thursday that includes $2.68 million for the Martin County Water District (MCWD) for the fiscal year 2024-2025.

HB1 allocates $681,000 to the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) for a water tank project and $2 million for water meters in Martin County.

Statewide, HB1 allocates about $2.7 billion in one-time spending from the state budget reserve trust fund account across fiscal years 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026.

Governor Beshear had proposed $12 million for water improvements in Martin County in his original budget, but legislators did not support the allocation.

The governor has 10 days, excluding Saturday, to act on HB1.

Legislators will return April 12 and 15 to consider overriding any vetoes by the governor and to finish any pending issues on the agenda.
