Eden Academic Wildcats clinch Region 29 Governor’s Cup

EASTERN — The Eden Elementary School Academic Wildcats triumphed at the Region 29 Governor’s Cup, clinching the overall championship amid talented competition from 16 participating schools. The event took place Saturday at Duff Allen Elementary School in Floyd County.

Eden coach Lora Hale expressed her overwhelming pride and gratitude for the team’s historic achievement.

“I am so elated for them because they have worked so hard and they definitely deserve it,” Hale said.

Under the guidance of Hale and coaches Shayna Horn, Chasity Crum and Trista Stafford, and with support from their families and community, the Wildcats demonstrated exceptional prowess across a range of academic disciplines.

The Future Problem Solving team, comprising Peyton Crum, Beckam Spaulding, Paige Stafford and Skylin Fitch, outshone their competitors to take first place.

Quick Recall secured a commendable second place with standout performances from Olivia Maynard, Belle Ray, Peyton Crum, Blake Wells, Keilin Whitten, Deacon Muncy and Jaxon Maynard.

Individual team members also shone brightly in their respective categories.

Olivia Maynard finished first in Language Arts and fourth in Science.

Keilin Whitten clinched first place in Arts & Humanities and second place in Mathematics.

Paige Stafford’s literary prowess earned her first place in Composition, while teammate Arielle Jude secured a respectable fifth place.

Blake Wells and Deacon Muncy tied for second place in Social Studies.

The Wildcats’ journey to the top was fueled by months of preparation—study, practice and a shared commitment to excellence.

“Our students have proven themselves to be ready to compete at the highest level for elementary academics,” said Hale. “This year’s team faced high levels of competition, but they truly worked as a team, and it paid off. They have also had so much fun working together on their journey this year. Love this little team.”

Eden Elementary’s achievement has brought honor to the school and the district.

“Our region sure has some great talent and intelligence in our youth at all schools,” commented Hale. “Keep up the great work.”

Contributions by numerous individuals helped make the regional event possible.

“A huge shoutout to the wonderful coaches that have worked with the team, the families that always support their babies and cheer them on, and everyone who has supported them during our academic season,” added Hale. “Thanks to Duff Allen Central Elementary for hosting our Regional Governor’s Cup. Thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Vanover for giving up her Saturday to officiate.”

Hale’s message to students: “Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.”
