Rowe and Perry named Miss & Mr. Kentucky Basketball

LEXINGTON — Pikeville’s Trinity Rowe and Lyon County’s Travis Perry are the Miss and Mr. Kentucky Basketball winners. The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches presented the awards in a ceremony Sunday in Lexington.

Rowe is the first winner from the 15th Region since Sheldon Clark’s Ida Bowen in 1991. The 5-5 Southern Mississippi signee scored 2,463 points at Pikeville and led her team to five regional championships in six years. As a senior, she averages 16.2 points per game and surpassed 2,300 career points and 1,000 career assists.

Perry, the Region 2 Player of the Year and University of Kentucky signee, became the state’s all-time leading scorer last year. He has scored 5,393 points in six years at Lyon County and surpassed the previous record held by Kelly Coleman, who scored 4,337 points at Wayland from 1952 to 1956. He also holds the record for the most career 3-pointers at 698.

Donna L.J. Murphy Award (for “great” female student-athlete): Laken Williams of Martin County High School.

Ralph Beard Lifetime Achievement Award: Scott Hundley, 2000 Mr. Kentucky Basketball from Scott County.

Founders Coaching Award: Tim Davis, 2008 boys Kentucky All-Star coach and longtime Marion County coach.

Kentucky All-Star Hall of Fame Inductees: Karen Hayse, Member of Kentucky All-Star Planning Committee (2008-2017), Kentucky Lions Eye; Derek Smith, 1999 Kentucky All-Star, Highlands.

Wallace C. “Wah Wah” Jones Award (for multi-sport athlete): Brady Hussey, Covington Catholic.

William “Mr. Wildcat” Bill Keightley Award (for team manager): Garrett Stearns, Madison Central.
