Mountain Citizen Player of the Week: Jacob Sturgell

Jacob Sturgell (#20) of the Martin County Cardinals basketball team is the Mountain Citizen Player of the Week.

A versatile player who can play inside and out, Sturgell fulfills his duties in the guard/forward/center positions. He is averaging an impressive 10.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and shooting 47.3% from the field this season.

This recognition comes on the heels of key performances in the 15th Region All “A” Classic.

Sturgell played a pivotal role in the semifinals Thursday, helping Martin County defeat Betsy Layne 94-72. He delivered a stellar performance with 17 points and seven rebounds, hitting 7 of 13 from the field and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line.

The senior’s momentum continued Sunday when the Cards faced Pikeville in the championship game. Sturgell again helped carry his team with 17 points and eight rebounds, shooting an impressive 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.
