Brooke Marcum (#25) of the Martin County Lady Cards basketball team is the Mountain Citizen Player of the Week.
Marcum averages eight points and four rebounds per game this season. She lit it up Friday and Saturday when the Lady Cards traveled to the Buckeye Elite Showcase at Shawnee State University.
Marcum’s highlight came Saturday in the double-overtime game against Notre Dame, Ohio. The sophomore guard scored 22 points to lead her team to a 63-62 win.
During the intense game, Marcum refused to lose, sinking two crucial free throws late in the first overtime to tie the game and force the double overtime. In the decisive moments of the second overtime, she again delivered, making two more free throws to secure a one-point lead and ultimately clinch the victory.
Marcum went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the overtime periods. Her clutch performance earned her the title of Buckeye Elite Showcase Player of the Game.
She also contributed significantly in the opening match against Wheelersburg, Ohio, scoring 13 points in the Lady Cards’ victory.
