INEZ — Commissioner Nita Collier gave Mayor Ed Daniels and the Inez City Commission an update during a Dec. 19 meeting on four spring projects that the city is planning.
Collier was following up on ideas she presented in November: cleaning up the creek bank, sidewalk art, light posts on Main Street and renewing the Inez Bike Trail.
Collier reminded the Commission that Inez City clerk Lisa Mollett plans to price waders and gloves for a possible purchase in January, then apply for a reimbursement grant for safety equipment through the Kentucky League of Cities.
The commissioner hopes the city can clean up the creek banks monthly with Martin County Code Enforcement Officer Paul McCoy’s help.
The sidewalk art project involves decorating sections of the sidewalk with paint or vinyl stickers that resemble quilt blocks. Those blocks would display cultural and historical scenes. Collier announced that she found a company that can do vinyl.
“We just have to decide on what designs we’re going to use and where we’re going to place them so that we can get sized before we start pricing,” she said.
The third spring initiative on Collier’s list involves installing light posts on Main Street to match the ones at the courthouse. She is working with a representative at State Electric to find posts that will be a good match.
“We’ll have all that stuff together in the spring,” said Collier.
The last spring project will reevaluate the Inez Bike Trail for possible extension and renew paint and signage. Collier said she spoke with Troy Hearn, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Bicycle and Pedestrian program coordinator, and he wants to look at the trail.
“He’s going to wait until March or April,” she said, adding that Hearn wants to meet with her and the mayor.
