Martin County cheerleaders win fifth place in KHSAA State Cheer Competition

WINCHESTER — Martin County High School Cheerleaders finished fifth in the KHSAA State Cheer Competition. The Cardinals squad competed in the All-Girls Super Large Division Saturday at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.

The event started with the first three sessions Friday, featuring Game Day Large and Game Day Small competitions. On Saturday, the All-Girls Large and Coed competitions started at 9 a.m., followed by the All-Girls Small, All-Girls Medium and All-Girls Super divisions at 1:45 p.m.

Martin County faced tough competition and clinched fifth place.

Coach Nikki Moore said, “I’m so proud of this group of girls getting out there and showing everyone what they had. The hard work really showed today on the mat. Now it’s on to basketball season and getting ready for districts.”

Jaylee Deskins, a junior at Martin County, shared her excitement about the experience.

“It was a great experience and so much fun to be a part of,” Deskins said. “I was definitely amazed by what other teams had under their sleeve and cannot wait for next year.”
