Five indicted in Martin County

INEZ — The Martin County grand jury returned formal indictments Nov. 2 charging five individuals with crimes that range from child endangerment to firearms, drug possession and bail jumping.

Ariel Carver, 26, of Warfield, stands accused of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, possession or use of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a minor, and possession of marijuana.

According to the indictment, Carver had methamphetamine, gabapentin, an altered glass pipe, and marijuana in her possession Aug. 11.

The indictment further alleges that Carter endangered the welfare of a minor “by being a parent, guardian or person legally charged with the care or custody of a minor and failing or refusing to exercise diligence in the control of the child to prevent that child from becoming neglected, dependent or delinquent.” Her bond is $5,000.

William Patrick, 33, of Inez, stands accused of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

The indictment states Patrick had a Taurus brand 9mm caliber handgun and a Smith and Wesson brand AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in his possession Oct. 25 after having a prior felony conviction. The grand jury also alleges Patrick caused a minor to engage in criminal activity, namely tampering with physical evidence. His bail is $10,000.

Scottie Thompson, 36, of Warfield, stands accused of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine) and possession or use of drug paraphernalia.

The indictment states Thompson had methamphetamine and a syringe in his possession July 2. His bond is $500.

Keith Wiley, 33, of Inez, faces a single charge of bail jumping in the first degree. The indictment states Wiley did not appear in court Aug. 17 for sentencing on a felony charge, after being released from custody on the condition that he would appear. His bond is $5,000.

Gladys Maynard, 47, of Inez, faces a charge of bail jumping in the first degree. The grand jury alleges Maynard did not appear in court Sept. 7 for a pretrial conference on a felony charge, after being released from custody on the condition that she would appear. Her bail is $5,000.
