FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Public Service Commission announced meetings at four locations and a virtual meeting to provide information to the public and allow residents to comment on Kentucky Power’s proposed 18.3% rate increase for residential customers.
The PSC is also accepting written comments ahead of the public hearing on the case Nov. 28.
According to a PSC press release, Kentucky Power requested the new base rates, including 18.3% for residential customers, 8.6% for industrial general service and 12.8% for general service, to create an additional $93,935,727 in annual retail revenues or an increase of approximately 13.6%. “Kentucky Power seeks to finance approximately $470 million in deferred costs through securitized bonds pursuant to recently enacted legislation.”
In-person meetings are set for Catlettsburg, Hazard, Frankfort and Pikeville. Each will feature an information session followed by an opportunity for comments.

Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.: Boyd County Courthouse, 2800 Louisa Road, Catlettsburg.
Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.: Perry County Courthouse, 481 Main Street, Hazard.
Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.: Public Service Commission (includes virtual option) 211 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort.
Monday, Nov. 20, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.: Pike County Courthouse, 146 Main Street, Pikeville.
Virtual meeting
Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Directions to participate will be on the PSC website psc.ky.gov/ before Nov. 16.
Public hearing
The PSC will hold a public hearing on the proposal Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m. at 211 Sower Boulevard in Frankfort. Time is available before the hearing begins for public comments. The hearing will be streamed live on the commission’s YouTube channel.
