Martin County volleyball finishes 1-2 week

Martin County Lady Cards Volleyball team had a busy week, playing three matches in four days. Coming off a win Sept. 28 against Tug Valley, the Lady Cards got their second straight win Oct. 2, blanking Magoffin County 3-0 in a district showdown at Magoffin County. They lost Oct. 4 against Perry County Central 3-0 on the road and Paintsville 3-0 Thursday at home.

Martin County coach Krista Newsome said, “Bringing home a district win and having two wins back to back is so exciting. We’re closing out the season strong. I am so proud of my team.”

The Lady Cards were set to play Shelby Valley away Oct. 9 and Lawrence County at home Oct. 12 before heading into the 57th District Tournament.

Lady Cards blank Magoffin

Martin County went head-to-head with 57th District rival Magoffin County, dominating three sets 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17 to walk away with the victory Oct. 2.

The Lady Cards recorded 33 kills, 25 assists, 41 digs and 13 service aces. In contrast, the Hornets managed 14 kills, 13 assists, 53 digs and six service aces.

Chloe Jude — four kills, 20 assists, seven digs and one ace

Sarah Keener — one kill, one assist, two digs and three aces

Katie Marcum — four kills, one dig and four aces

Addison Kerr — six kills, three assists, seven digs, one ace

Haley Robinson — three digs

Hallee Preece — five kills, nine digs, two aces

Raegan Horn — five kills, one assist, seven digs, two aces

PC 3, MC 0

Martin County got a slow start against Perry County and never recovered. The Commodores defeated the Lady Cards 3-0, claiming three straight sets 25-12, 25-14 and 25-15.

The Lady Cards had 12 kills, seven assists, 29 digs and five service aces for the game. Perry County had 28 kills, 23 assists, 38 digs and 24 service aces.

Raegan Horn — one kill, one dig

Chloe May — six kills, one assist

Addison Kerr — one kill, two assists, six digs

Chloe Jude — two kills, four assists, nine digs, one ace

PHS 3, MC 0

Martin County faced district rival Paintsville at home Thursday, losing three sets 25-8, 25-14 and 25-21.

The Lady Cards had 11 kills, 11 assists, 20 digs and five service aces for the game. Paintsville had 45 kills, 43 assists, 35 digs and 11 service aces.
