Inez Elementary School hosted its annual Heritage Day on Sept. 29. The day consisted of many events for students to participate in, such as pumpkin-carving, wax museum, square dancing and various student projects like rag dolls, instruments and fishing poles.
The event also hosted several exhibits from community members for the students to visit.
Inside, some of the members of the local quilt group, the Pieceful Stitchers—Brenda Branscome, Sheila Jude, Denise Stepp, Rossalene Cox and Betty Muncy—set up their quilts and spoke about their traditional craft with students.
Jared Goforth had tons of old-time tools and artifacts that he shared with students, as well as playing instruments for students.
Outside, Joe Maynard and the Martin County Extension office were set up with honey sticks and information to share with students.
Kara Beth Marcum, Melissa McCoy and Keelynn Stepp helped students make homemade butter.
Jamie Cline brought some animals from his farm for students to learn about and view.
Students also had lots of food outside with Josh Cassady’s BBQ and fried potatoes and soup beans cooked over an open fire by LT Preece and friends.
IES would like to thank everyone who helped make Heritage Day such a wonderful event for the students.
