RICHMOND — Two Martin County High School golfers turned in solid performances in the All “A” Classic state tournament Saturday.

Senior Jake James and junior Jaylee Deskins were both in Richmond for the boys and girls tournaments – James at Gibson Bay Golf Course and Deskins at the University Club of Arlington.

James delivered a solid performance, shooting an 85. His score placed him in a tie for the 49th position out of 108 talented golfers.

Deskins posted a score of 102, earning her a tie for the 30th spot out of a competitive field of 80 golfers.

Both James and Deskins earned their spots in the All “A” State tournament by securing the second low individual positions in the All “A” 15th Region tournament.

MCHS golf coach Boo Newsome praised the players’ performances.

“This is a great experience for our program,” Newsome said. “Jake and Jaylee have experience already playing in the All “A” state, which helped them this weekend. They competed on two challenging courses. I am proud of the way they fought and finished. This experience will prepare them for the upcoming regional competition.”
