Remains found in Prestonsburg identified as woman missing since 2021: Police continue search for answers

PRESTONSBURG — Kentucky State Police (KSP) Pikeville Post confirmed Thursday that the human remains discovered April 22 in Prestonsburg have been positively identified as those of a woman who mysteriously disappeared two years ago.

The deceased is Kandi Gonzalez, last seen June 1, 2021 in the Abbott Creek Road area in Prestonsburg. She was 36 years old at the time of her disappearance.

Gonzalez’s case has been a significant concern for the local community and law enforcement agencies. After her initial disappearance, KSP initiated a missing person case and launched an extensive search. Despite these efforts, Gonzalez’s whereabouts remained unknown until the recent discovery of the remains.

Details surrounding the circumstances of Gonzalez’s death are still under investigation by KSP. While confirming Gonzalez’s identity brings a tragic end to the search, it also opens a new chapter in the quest for justice. Investigators are now focusing on unraveling the events leading up to her untimely death.
