Martin County fishing teams qualify for nationals

Two fishing teams from Martin County have secured their spots in the upcoming national championships after a successful performance in the Kentucky Bass Nation state championships held at Barren River Lake. The outstanding achievements of these young anglers have earned them well-deserved recognition in the fishing community.

Junior anglers Tyler Goble and Brayden Marcum, demonstrating their exceptional skills and determination, qualified for the prestigious Bassmaster High School and Junior Series championships. The duo’s commendable performance during the Junior State championship June 6-7 secured their place in the nationals.

Goble and Marcum reeled in four fish on Day 1, accumulating a total weigh-in of 9.37 pounds. Their efforts landed them in fourth place. They continued their pursuit of victory on Day 2 and managed to haul in five fish weighing 12.09 pounds.

Goble and Marcum are the first-ever junior team from Martin County to qualify for the tournament. 

In addition to Goble and Marcum, another Martin County fishing duo will go to the national stage. High school anglers Jarrod Haney and Brayden Blankenship caught five fish weighing 8.19 pounds in the high school state championship June 8-9. Their performance secured their advancement.

The Bassmaster High School and Junior Series championship is July 21-22 at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.
