HARRODSBURG — Hefner Hare, a Lovely-based artist known for her vivid paintings encapsulating music and pop culture, created an inspired tribute to John Lennon at this year’s Playthink Festival, embodying the event’s emphasis on art, sustainability, music, performance and life itself.

Hare shared her experience at the four-day festival at Terrapin Hill Farm in Harrodsburg, June 14-18.

“I packed up my brushes, my paints and performed a live painting while I was there.”

Throughout the festival, as musicians took the stage and performers juggled swords and spun fire on stilts, Hare created her painting live, adding an extra layer of performance art to the bustling atmosphere.

Her work, a portrait of John Lennon emblazoned with the word “Imagine.” Hare’s painting breathed life into the iconic image of the musician, adding to the tapestry of “exploration, discovery, relaxation and connection” that defined the Playthink festival, according to Hare.

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to run away to join the circus, and painting live at Playthink was as close as it gets.”

Besides her live painting, Hare’s finished paintings were on display and available for purchase in an outdoor gallery space at the festival. This allowed attendees to immerse themselves further into her artistry, showcasing a peek into the depth of her work.

Hare’s live painting is a testimony to her artistic prowess, her ability to engage with her environment, and the unique synergy between her art and the spirit of the Playthink festival.
