INEZ — The Martin County Board of Education honored exceptional elementary and high school students in a meeting June 5 at Central Office.

Schools Superintendent Larry James commended the students for their outstanding achievements and presented them with certificates of recognition.

Expressing his gratitude to the students for attending the ceremony during their summer break, James humorously revealed, “I lost a bet. I thought no one would come on summer break, but I was pleasantly surprised.” His lighthearted remark set a positive tone.

Bryson Baisden and Claire Howard were among the exemplary elementary students.

Bryson, a diligent second grader, received special recognition for completing all his levels of Lexia, a notable accomplishment that earned him applause from the audience.

Claire did not attend the meeting to accept her certificate.

From the high school level, Vincent Lawson, the salutatorian of Martin County High School’s Class of 2023, accepted his certificate. When James inquired about his future plans, Vincent expressed his intention to attend Morehead State and pursue a pre-law degree, eliciting admiration from James.

“That’s awesome,” responded James.

The BOE’s recognition of these outstanding students highlights a commitment to nurturing excellence and fostering a supportive educational environment.

The dedication and accomplishments of Bryson, Claire, Vincent and Dennison serve as inspirations to their peers and community.
