Martin County tennis teams and coach Joshua Penix spent last week making up matches due to weather cancellations. Boys and girls teams knocked off Paintsville, while the boys defeated Johnson Central and tied with Magoffin County and the girls lost to the Hornets and Eagles.

“This has been a busy week for our team,” Coach Penix said. “I am seeing tons of improvement and continued competitiveness from my kids, and know we are right there with some other teams if we can just break over the hump in the road matches.”

This week the Cardinals will take on Belfry and travel to Lexington to play Lafayette.

“We are also going to watch UK Men’s tennis team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before our match in Lexington,” said Penix. “Our kids are excited for the opportunity to see tennis played at the college level.”
